Aikido is a dynamic and effective martial art, which provides   a basis for both physical and spiritual development. The techniques of Aikido   are designed to diffuse an aggressor's attack rather than inflict injuries,   and the emphasis in practice is on co-operation rather than competition. Practitioners   learn to look after each other and themselves so that throws and locks can be   safely practised. Because Aikido uses the whole body great strength is not needed   to overcome an aggressor, and so Aikido is ideal for all regardless of size,   strength, age or gender, eventually you will learn to defend yourself against   multiple armed and unarmed attacks. Many Aikido movements are derived from traditional   Japanese sword and staff forms, and weapons' training is a part of Aikido. Classes   begin with gentle stretching and moving. Since Aikido exercises every limb and   joint of the body, flexibility, muscle tone, co-ordination and reactions are   all improved. Aikido offers an absorbing way to maintain health and vitality   within a framework of aesthetic movement, and regular practice results in a   more calm and relaxed mind, and a stronger and suppler body. Unlike Judo, Aikido   has no competitive element and you set the intensity of the work out. Aikido   is ideal for those who would not want or be able to participate in a vigorous   work out but can also be practiced at full power for those that want to work   up a sweat. The class will finish with breathing and relaxation exercises.
